RFK Jr.’s recent announcement regarding COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for pregnant women, children, and adolescents has alarmed specialists in the field. There have been no changes in the science, and COVID-19 infection is still a concern throughout the U.S. and the world. For pregnant women, it remains the case that pregnancy makes recovery from COVID more difficult, while a vaccination protects both the mother and infant. For children and adolescents, although they appear to recover more easily from COVID, they still suffer the potential debilitating effects of Long COVID without vaccination. The questions now are, will pharmacies and clinics still offer vaccinations to pregnant women and children on demand, and will insurance companies cover the cost as before? Without coverage, customers may see a charge of $130 from some drug companies for each vaccination. More information from Here & Now via NPR Radio.
